The Securities and Exchange Board of India SEBI).was established on April 12, 1988.It was provided legal format on 30January 1992. The main purpose of SEBI is to provide protection to the interests of investors in the capital market. The headquarters of the Securities and Exchange Board of India is in Mumbai.

SEBI srarted with an initial capital of Rs. 7.50 crores. Its promoter company was IDBI, ICICI, and IFCI. The Indian Securities and Exchange Board controls the stock market. The current chairman of SEBI is Ajay Tyagi.
